MAKE A PHOTOGRAPHER'S DAY BY LEAVING A POSITIVE REVIEW

Spreading the word for a small business can be a game-changer, and here's why it matters even more for photographers:

Starting a business can be a slow burn at the start, no matter what the industry. A savvy business owner would thank the customer for their business and go about their day but one golden nugget for photographers is reaching out to a client to say, "hey, if you love your photos as much as I do, leave me a review" because photographers have the beautiful craft of photos that live much longer than when we snap them during sessions. They serve as a conversation point; a reminder that we spent time together to make something and that's pretty special.

A single photo says a lot about a moment, why not share it?

Look, we might as well call it out together: if you already are going to post to social media, it's not that much harder to leave a review. OOP––I said it! I know, I know, life can get hectic and it's one more step. I'm only saying this because the value of a positive review filled with good vibes, a story from the day, or just a love note with your favorite pics from the day, is astronomical to the photographer.

Think of this as your immediate way to your photographers heart

Your review also connects other people looking for their dream photographer by showing others that you had a positive experience and would encourage others to do the same!

Tips on how to leave a stellar review

I. Revisit your gallery

The quickest way to remember the feelings of your photos is to enjoy your gallery one more time. You know the saying of how many words can live within an image, so let the feels take over while you’re writing your review. This creates an authentic emotive connection to your photos and your testimony.

II. Brain dump in a note

Most phones have a little note app that’s used for reminders & memo but is also an easy tool to jot down your review. Open it up and allow the open space to catch all your thoughts and reflections from our time together. Once you’ve let the words free-flow from your brain, go through and revise any voice-to-text hiccups--which happens 234 times a day to me.

III. Keep a journal

Journaling has many benefits, like the luxury of having your day annotated and getting to reflect on the highlights of what made the day magical. Take the best parts that you'd want to share and see if there are any images in your gallery that reflect those same feelings.

FAQ

When do I leave my review for my photographer?

As a photographer, we always want to hear the nice things that our clients have to say but more importantly, we're eager to know which photos you love most! Any time after you receive your gallery, share your photos to social media, tag the photographers so they can see which ones you love! You can also ask your photographer for the best place to submit your review.

Where CAN I post my review?

There's never a bad way to share your experience! This could be a quick & sweet post of behind-the-scenes moments to social media or it could be a thank you card! Most photographers will follow up to see what your thoughts are. A great place to start with leaving your review is Google, Facebook Pages, Yelp, The Knot, or Zola.

What other ways can I support a photographer in addition to my review?

Great question––this can vary from photographer to photographer as each person works hard to niche their craft but an easy way to support a photographer in addition to your kindly-worded review would be to consider referring them to your community, purchasing prints directly from the photographer, or inquire about additional services they may offer (think: I booked that photographer for my wedding but my friends are having a anniversary party.)

With your review, photographers are able to reflect on the best parts with you and see where they can make the experience better for future clients. As somebody who’s always trying to better themselves, know that I value words and look forward to hearing which moments are my clients favorites.

Remember that what you choose to post on your socials is entirely up to you, and there’s no bad vibes here if you choose to not post! I just share the multiple ways you can show your support to the creative community.
