The holidays are right around the corner...

That means the fridge photos and grandmas album are overdue for the annual refresh of new photos. It happens every year and somehow it catches us off guard and we’re not prepared. Whether that’d be running out the door to meet your photographer or forgetting to lay out the outfits the night before. This is where you do a happy dance because I’ve got you on this one, friend. I’ve heard *a lot* in my time as a photographer so I’ve taken some time to outline the solutions to common mistakes people make for their holiday photos.

1.) "Are Mini Sessions Worth It?"

Holiday mini sessions are a great way to celebrate the season and they make for perfect gifts around the holidays. When you’re booking a mini session, you’re looking for options that fit your lifestyle which could include schedules or budgets. Mini sessions often are schedule friendly because they’re a ton of fun in a short span of time, so check with your photographer to see if they offer multiple times to book with. For pricing, this will vary per photographer and is often based on availability, experience,  and other factors to ensure you’re getting the best quality photos at that price point. Mini sessions are worth it for getting the best bang for your buck & can be adapted to fit your schedules.

2.) Don't Exclude Four Legged Friends

I endorse any opportunity for you to include your fur family! I’m a dog person and will take any chance to include the pups. The energy a four-legged friend is sure to bring some candid moments to life in your photos. Always check with the location of where your shoot is to make sure that the invite is open to pets, too. It’s not uncommon for some popular places across Colorado Springs, like Paint Mines Interpretive Park, don’t even allow pets due to sensitive landscape. Some parks might have rules, studios might charge a feee, so just be on the safe side and confirm with your photographer if you’re able to bring your furry pal along!

3.) Give Yourself PROPS

Heheh I enjoy a good pun! A few details in a shoot can go a long way and props are an easy way to add some personality. Love music? Bring some vinyls with you. Spend most Christmas mornings in your pjs? Get the whole fam matching onesies. This makes your session unique not just too you, but when you look back you’ll be glad you chose to include an extra sprinkle of personality. A great example is this mini session I did for Katelyn & Corey, they opted for a fun wreath that coordinated with the pups’ bandanas to give that rustic touch.

4.) Outfits Don't Make or Break It

I’m always sharing with my clients that clothing is like an extension of you! When you’re out shopping and go to pick up a piece of clothing, you’re called to it. I encouraged you to enter your closet with your holiday session in mind and approach your outfit selection with the same tenacity. If you’re like me and love thrifting for a new outfit, the. Cozy and organic colors that are more earthy like deeper hues of blues and greens and warm color palettes, those mixed with cozy neutrals is a winning recipe for a seasonal outfit. After you complete your booking with Brody Lee Photo Company, keep an eye on your email for a complimentary Outfit Guide! This covers what kind of clothes to pick out, what colors look best with what kind of shoot and so much more.
